My name is Gabriele Facciotti. I’m a staff photographer for Pentaphoto and an Associated Press Stringer covering the whole FIS Ski World Cup circuit.
I work in the field of advertising photography too, shooting for some of the major national and international sports brands.
I’m totally in love with mountains and skiing. Having the chance to travel and shooting the best skiers in the world is something amazing and that I always feel is like a dream.
I’m a Canon shooter, so I use a Canon set of cameras and lenses.
Cameras
Canon 1DX MK II – Totally in love with it. Fast, reliable, I can use it blindfolded…
Canon 1DX – As a backup.
Lenses
Canon EF 500mm f/4 – When shooting sports, sometimes you must rely on super-telephoto lenses (see guide). I think the 500mm f/4 is the most versatile telephoto lens on the market. It’s light, sexy, and with the Canon DX series is terrific!
Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8 – Don’t like it a lot, but it’s a great piece of gear and somehow a workhorse.
Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 – Bought recently because I needed it for an assignment. I was skeptical in the beginning, but then found it to be a great lens. Think of something sharp; well, it’s sharper! And the Macro is a great option not only for real “macro” photography but for stranger kinds of portraits and to explore new angles.
Canon EF 50mm f/1.2 – I love this lens. I would like to use it more in my workflow, but it isn’t always easy due to my genre of photography.
Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8 – Bought quite recently. No need to have the f/2.8 in my opinion. f/4 is enough and way less expensive. I hate the 24-70 so this one is my everyday “I don’t know what’s gonna happen” lens choice (usually together with a second body with 70-200 attached). I use it a lot when remoting the camera with Pocket Wizard.
Canon EF 24mm f/1.4 – Great lens. Wide but not that wide. Sharp, nice colors, always in my bag.
Canon EF 15mm f/2.8 Fisheye – I only use it with remote cameras.
Canon Extender EF 1.4x II – If it is very, very fast…
