Sal D’Alia

Italian born and raised, I moved to NYC in 2010 after graduating at the Academy of Cinema and TV of Milan. I started my career as a freelance director, producer, camera operator and editor.
I have worked for many Fortune 500 companies and networks like Marriott, Sony, Citroen, Unilever, Nike, Food Network, Glamour, GQ, NY Giants, Bravo, and Warner Sound, and artists such as Madonna, Ed Sheeran, Blake Shelton, Jon Bon Jovi and many others…
I am a pioneer of original content for the web. My work can be quantified with more than 100 million views on YouTube, spreading from music to sports to art. I am a Sony Alpha ambassador since 2016 and one of the founding members of the Alpha Collective.
80% of what I do is “one-man crew,” so gear-wise the key is portability and quality. I fit everything in one backpack and I shoot handheld most of the time. My shoot style is run & gun to the core; I use my tripod only for the interview part. That’s why I go for carbon fiber so that it doesn’t weigh much on my backpack all day long.
The video quality from the a7R III is great and it’s an amazing still camera as well – every time I get a break from video I try to get as many photos as I can from the beautiful locations I’m visiting.
When I need some cinematic motion I use the Zhyiun Crane, it fits in my backpack and it’s easy to set up, which helps a lot when I’m on a tight time frame (always!).
I dump footage every night on my Sony 2TB Drive and edit on Premiere Pro CC (review) from my office in NYC once the trip is over.
I try to have the widest range of lenses; that’s why I carry from 12mm to 400mm, everything Sony so that I can use stabilization and autofocus. All specialty shots are done on my favorite lens, the Leica Summilux 50mm f/1.4.
I use the Sennheiser wireless system, which is lightweight and gives me quality and reliability, and I always carry a small drone — you never know when you can get amazing aerial shots.
