My name is Barb Case and I am honored to be asked to introduce myself and my camera gear on Shotkit.

Wildlife photography is my passion and has been for the past five years. After the death of my husband, the need for a way to work through the grief led me to purchase a Canon Rebel camera kit and get outside in nature and hike.

I soon realized I needed to know more about cameras and photography and began classes and workshops.

My skills increased significantly with purchasing a Canon 5D Mark IV and more recently a Canon EOS R5.

My go-to lenses are a Tamron SP 150-600mm f/5-6.3 Di VC USD, Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 DG OS HSM and a Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8.

I also occasionally use a Canon Macro 100mm.

For me, my best combination is the Canon EOS R5 with the Tamron SP 150-600mm f/5-6.3 Di VC USD. My dream is to own a Canon RF 400mm f/2.8 lens which I rent when traveling to Alaska to photograph bears at Lake Clark.

Using the mirrorless Canon EOS R5 has really changed the efficiency of my shots, especially with the eye-tracking feature. I won’t go back to DSLR!

I have found that the Cotton Carrier Harness is the most effective and comfortable to support my camera, extra memory cards, and batteries when hiking.

I prefer to travel light and I use my Osprey Skimmer 16 backpack to carry water and other supplies like sunscreen, insect repellent, and bear spray which are all important items to keep close at hand when in the wild.

The Pelican Air 1535 filled with my gear accompanies me when traveling. I seldom use a tripod, but when I do it is the Sirui ET-2004.

Raw photos are edited and processed on MacBook Pro using FastRawViewer, Adobe Photoshop 2022, Topaz and DxO Nik Software. I find that using a light touch when editing gives the most natural results and brings the subject to life as I observed it in the wild.

My goal is to always capture the emotion of the subject I am photographing.

This takes time and patience but is rewarding when the results allow viewers to understand why we must protect and value the wildlife around us.
