In 2015, I was honored by Canon to be named a Canon USA Explorer of Light. I have owned every Canon digital DSLR since the Canon 10D. Canon cameras have been with me most of my career. I guess when you grow up with a camera, it feels like an extension of you. I trust this camera, I know this camera, I have a relationship with this camera. I know it inside out, upside down and backwards.
The reason I have so many bodies is I shoot a lot of video for my clients and my education website. When I broadcast live, I broadcast with the Canon XA35’s. I have 3 of them. However, when I record for my education site, I shoot on the three Canon 5D Mark III’s. They are outstanding high-resolution video cameras with the best glass in the world.
The Canon 5D Mark IV has been in my kit for one week as it was just released. I have already shot on it 3 times and the video capabilities are beyond what I could have hoped for. It has a higher resolution than the Mark III with better, bigger focusing. The auto-tracking in video mode is a game changer.
I have worked with many lavalier microphones, but I came back to Sennheiser as being the best on the market. I can plug them straight into my Canon cameras and record excellent audio straight onto my footage. It saves a lot of time and money in syncing audio and footage in post production.
The Kino Flo Tegra 4-bank daylight lights are also a huge part of my education for photographers.
I’ve had a Wacom tablet for post processing my images for nearly 20 years. This is the third one I’ve owned. I use them until they die. I love Wacom.
All my female clients are treated to full hair and makeup prior to their shoot, which is why I chose to include the makeup and brushes in my shot kit. Creating a space where my clients feel completely pampered and beautiful is an important part of my brand.
I wear my Spider holster during every shoot. I basically live in it. I shoot almost all of my portraits with the Canon 50mm f/1.2 and Canon 35mm f/1.4 lenses. The Canon 24mm f/1.4 and the Canon 24-105mm f/1.4 lenses are used for filming my shoots for my education.
The Profoto B1 strobes are absolutely magnificent. I love that they are wireless and they dial right down to low light where I can get a really moody, and painterly look. They are my favorite strobes in the world.
